The Aramaic Language
Aramaic belongs to the Northwestern Semitic language family, which also includes Hebrew, Edomite, Moabite, Ekren, Sudanese, etc.
Aramaic is written in the Aramaic alphabet, which is also a descendant of the Phoenician alphabet. The Aramaic alphabet is also the basis for the creation or adaptation of specific writing systems of some other Semitic languages (such as the Hebrew alphabet).
Our earliest knowledge of Aramaic comes from a small number of ancient royal inscriptions from nearly three thousand years ago (900-700 BC).
